What if you already have most titles maxed does your name get announced?

I can't imagine A-Net would impliment such a method without having tested it. If they have the ability to announce when people max a title... then they can monitor it how often it happens. I'd guess they've watched it for a while and picked the titles that would generate the amount of time we have favor that they would like.

The only questions is will we be happy with the amount of time they plan for us to have favor?

Was it the best change? Perhaps not. I myself can forsee some possible problems if it works out how I think it'll work. But, perhaps, instead of just saying, "OMFG LAME" and the same sort of unhelpful comments, suggest how Anet could possibly tweak it or change things so that it is more of a reasonable solution to the problem.

People bitched that PvP accomplishments were controlling access to a portion of PvE, said it was not right, unfair, should not be controlled by it, etc. etc.

Now Anet actually makes an attempt at changing it so that access to PvE areas of the game are actually controlled by PvE accomplishments, and people bitch about that too.

I'm fairly positive that most of these people just won't be happy until they have free, uninhibited acces to UW and FoW. And even then, I'm sure some people will find some reason to bitch.

Seems to me that people would not gain titles fast enough. I gotta think we just went form Europe having favor most of the time, and others only sometimes, to very few ever having favor.

Now I won't say this is completely stupid until I see how it works, this is just speculation.

2 things I think, just ideas, that might work better is this system ON TOP OF tha HoH favor system, or possibly having it when 20 people max their titles then that country gains favor until another country gains 20 titles, but both would need to be refined beyond those basic ideas. Such as when the title gaining for my second idea would start, so a country doesnt have 19 people with titles, and one person ready to get a title...so when they lose favor, they gain it back in an instant.

/GW terrorist mode on

If you disagree or dont like the way this is implemented, or the way the game is going, theres one easy thing to do. Title Strike.

No one maxed a title in game for days, no favor anywhere in the game and this new system just grinds to a halt

/GW terrorist mode off

Not that I would suggest anyone be a GW terrorist y'see, just mentioning what such people could do..

The question is: Are there worldwide players enough to get 20 max titles per hour?

I liked the other system better: Europe having the favor around 16 of the 24 hours... hehehe...

Yay, ArenaNet rocks. MUCH MUCH better than the old system. Now we can actually go to the realms during the day without scrolls.

This is anets way of increasing the value of ectos, shards, and in effect, FoW armor in general. I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing.

thank god I don't like FoW or UW very much.

Seems like I'll frequent those areas less than my usual once or twice a year.

Or make it like:
20 people with max title = 1 hour of favor
everone with a max title after that makes it last 3 minutes longer (or restart the chain if none gets a max title within give time.)

AND

Everytime a hoh team wins 5 consecutive times add between 15 and 30 minutes on the favor timer of the continent the team came from. (europe and co)

That way hoh teams still have some influence on the favor (yay, we did a good thing for our continent), and we don't have grind till the end of our days

Just a thought though

FIRST OFF THEY WANT TO EXPAND ACCESS NOT CUT IT

since none of you including me have no idea at all how fast access will be gained speculation is worthless.

they will loosen the requirements as needed to allow the amount of access INCREASE they are shooting for.

FACTION IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS

trial amount of faction ...........study results

increase faction........... study results

increase faction again.............. study results

5X faction event........... study results

MAKE 5X faction permanent

substitte access for faction and they will increase the means of access as much as necessary to get the increased number access they want.

dust settles ectos/shards bottom out not skyrocket

I can't imagine Arena.net didn't have a lot of data on the rate of title gains sitting in front of them when they decided to make this change.

Idea:

Add a Priest of [Whatever] NPC to Hero's Ascent, the Temples of Ages, etc. For a cost of five Sigils given to this Priest, increment Favor counter by 1. Announce it as a semi-global message (so and so has made an offering to the Gods).

Other items could also be included, such as 5 gemstones, 5 Ectos, or a Four-Leaf Clover.

The donating player might receive a small increment to his Wisdom or Lucky title. Or Fame even, for a Sigil donation. Or maybe a random, small chance at a reward (such a unique minipet).

This change finalizes the change in ANet's focus, from the nice, attentive game company we all believed they were when Guild Wars (the original wasn't called Prophecies until they made Factions) first came out. Back then, it felt as if every little thing ANet did was giving players more options; Sorrow's Furnace alone is a testament to that. But with Factions and later products, the aim doesn't seem to be "give them new things to keep them entertained." Instead, it falls much closer to "give them something so they can keep entertaining themselves."

Factions gave us "persistent warfare," which on paper was a game designer's dream. Theoretically, it was supposed to keep players occupied and let them "create" their own content via PvP - a solid, well-tested concept proven to provide hours upon hours of entertainment. Because humans on the whole are infinitely more imaginative that any AI we've been able to program, PvP creates a challenge that effectively keeps the content fresh each time through, taking the burden off the programmer.

In reality, however, the "persistent warfare" Factions staked so much on wasn't nearly as popular as expected. Much like with Heroes' Ascent, people who liked PvP for the PvP experience did it for that reason, but people who did not enjoy this type of gameplay saw no benefit from it. Of course, the initially inflexible faction control line and the faction farmers and the bots and the griefers all contributed to this, but the result was the same: a game feature that designers believed would extend gameplay did not, in fact, perform as expected.

Now we see the very same thing happen to the Favor system. True, it was initially tied to a feature even further apart from its apparent function than the territory control in Factions, but now it is being tied to something that is no closer. The title system, also introduced in the dreaded Factions, mimics the "persistent warfare" concept in purpose if not in form: it is designed to keep the players interested in the same repetitive actions that they have already performed.

ANet is betting quite a lot on this little feature. First and foremost, titles are supposed to give players something to do until GWEN and GW2 come out. Second, they're supposed to make players buy GWEN so that the titles carry weight in GW2. Now, they're also supposed to determine Favor of the Gods. This tidy little system falls together perfectly: players keep going after titles because of GWEN/GW2/boredom, and since a lot of them are doing the same Favor of the Gods will trigger constantly. This is a brilliant way of letting players create their own content instead of spending valuable programming time already occupied by GWEN and GW2.

The problem with such a solution, however, is that by including the players in the equation, ANet is effectively relying on the unpredictable human factor, exactly the way it did for the "persistent warfare" in Factions. Lots of people looked at the Allegiance titles after Factions came out and said, "This is not for me." Lots more looked at the Allegiance-tied skills more recently and cried, "I'll never get this to be as good as I'd like!" And while some did indeed put in hard-core hours to accomplish such in-game goals, most casual or less dedicated people simply turned away.

If players start becoming just as disillusioned with the title system, Favor of the Gods will suffer. GWEN and GW2 sales might suffer too, so the only logical explanation for this change - especially with Passage Scrolls that have been introduced so recently as alternative ways of entering the Realms of the Gods - is that ANet is trying to estimate player participation on the title front. If the Favor is constantly on, it means people are going along with the plan. If it's not, someone needs to crank out a better marketing strategy, pronto.

Either way, people are still going to complain about Favor, except now they won't have anyone specific to complain at. Before, they could have blamed "the enemy," be it Europe or US, for preventing FoW/UW entry; now, they'll instead think something along the lines of "No one is going for titles!" and "Is this game is already dead?"

And, of course, blaming ANet for the change... even though a change is precisely what they've been asking for all along
